Internal Audit & Compliance Lead - Central Functions (13097)
Role Summary
Responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive internal audit programme across central functions (e.g. Finance, HR, IT, Commercial, Procurement) and supporting audits within Business Units on a risk-prioritised basis. The role is based in Birmingham (minimum 3 days per week) and may include occasional travel to regional sites depending on business requirements.
The role provides support and guidance to functional teams and, where required, project/office teams to strengthen compliance, particularly in relation to the Integrated Management System (IMS) and its alignment with Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety, and Information Security standards.
Key Responsibilities
Audit Planning
- Prepare and deliver an internal audit programme across Tilbury Douglas’ central functions and, where required, support Business Unit or project audits in line with risk prioritisation Liaise with project sites, central functions and corporate services to programme audits in line with the audit programme and Business Management Systems requirements and ongoing prioritisation of the current risk areas to the operation of the Management Systems.
- Management and reporting of all audits in the Business Unit, Project, Office or Function.
- Share lessons and business improvements resulting from audits conducted to drive our continuous improvement culture.
Audit Delivery & Actions
- Undertake effective, objective and consistent audits in accordance with the Guidance for Conducting Internal Audits of project sites, central functions and functions covering:
- Project Management
- Office Administration & Business Unit Management
- Functional Management
- Awareness and engagement with Information Security Management certification and audits
- Produce timely audit reports and findings in line with Tilbury Douglas audit process and systems.
- Audits may also include functional interfaces at project or Business Unit level where corporate systems are deployed
- Discuss and agree corrective and preventative actions and Root Cause Analysis. (RCAs) with project and Business Unit and functional auditees.
- Verify close-out of Non-Conformity Reports (NCRs) when sufficient evidence has been received and reviewed.
Analyse Audits and Provide Support and Advise to Project, Business Unit and Functional teams
- Provide support and advise to Project, Business Unit and Functional teams to improve compliance and commitment to implementing and operating to the Business Management Systems by:
- Supporting analysis of audit, NCR and RCA trends and themes including the effectiveness of corrective and preventative measures to prevent recurrence.
- Supporting elements of the Management Review meetings for Business Units in geographical area of operation through provision audit insights, trend data, and assurance on functional processes, best practice and attendance at meetings where appropriate.
- Regularly report business improvement from assurance and audit activity to include identification of best practice for sharing across the business.
Additional Duties
- Assist and support incident investigation activities as required including in undertaking forensic audits where appropriate.
- Undertake Supply chain audits to key supply chain partners where the requirement is identified.
- Support internal compliance and governance reviews on central processes and systems, including Information Security, Commercial Governance, and Procurement
- Support Pre-Qualification Questionnaire and Bid Submissions as required to support Business Unit work winning activity in Business Units in Business Units in geographical area of operation.
- Support Management Systems implementation and improvement projects and activities as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- Recognized degree in a related field
- Knowledge and understanding of ISO Compliance
- Conducting risk reviews applying qualitive scoring of risk
- Analytical thinker
- 2- 4 years of experience in internal audit
- Excellent analytical, communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
